Health checks

Modern medicine is remarkable. Yet for all its capabilities, the most meaningful advances are not in treatment — they are in the art of never needing it.

Prevention is the highest form of medicine

Modern medicine is remarkable. Yet for all its capabilities, the most meaningful advances are not in treatment — they are in the art of never needing it.

As a GP with over fifteen years of clinical experience across NHS and private practice, I have witnessed repeatedly the devastating difference between a condition identified early and one discovered only when symptoms force a patient to seek help. High blood pressure silently damages blood vessels for years before causing a stroke. Pre-diabetes can be reversed with lifestyle changes — but only if it is found first.

Annual health checks are not a tick-box exercise. When conducted by an experienced clinician who knows you and interprets your results in the full context of your life, they are one of the most powerful tools in modern preventative care.

At Hinchley Medical, this is precisely what we offer: not a conveyor-belt screening, but a considered, thorough medical review carried out by experienced doctors, followed by a bespoke report and personalised clinical guidance tailored specifically to you.

"Prevention is not just better than cure — it is the very foundation of excellent medicine. The best doctor makes themselves unnecessary."
  • Identify silent risk factors before they become emergencies
  • Detect chronic conditions years before symptoms appear
  • Receive actionable, personalised clinical guidance — not generic advice
  • Establish a trusted relationship with a doctor who knows your history
  • Gain peace of mind grounded in clinical evidence and expertise

Conditions we detect before you feel them

Many of the most significant health conditions in adults develop without warning signs. They are, however, identifiable — if someone looks carefully enough.

Cardiovascular Disease

Hypertension, elevated cholesterol and early cardiac risk are detectable years before a heart attack or stroke. We assess your full cardiovascular risk profile and intervene early.

No. 1 cause of death in the UK

Type 2 Diabetes

Pre-diabetes is reversible with early lifestyle intervention. A simple HbA1c identifies glucose dysregulation before it causes irreversible damage to nerves, kidneys and blood vessels.

Up to 50% undiagnosed in the UK

Thyroid Dysfunction

Thyroid disorders commonly present as fatigue, weight changes or mood disturbance — symptoms easily attributed to lifestyle. A TSH screen provides certainty and a path to rapid correction.

Affects 1 in 20 UK adults

Chronic Kidney Disease

CKD is asymptomatic until significantly advanced. Routine eGFR and urinalysis identify early renal impairment at a stage where progression can be meaningfully slowed.

3 million undiagnosed in the UK

Metabolic Syndrome & NAFLD

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is among the fastest-growing conditions in the UK. Liver function tests and metabolic markers reveal dysfunction that responds well to early clinical guidance.

25% of UK adults affected

Nutritional Deficiencies

Vitamin D, B12, iron and ferritin deficiencies profoundly affect energy, mood and immunity. Frequently missed in brief consultations, they are readily corrected once identified.

A health check genuinely bespoke to you

At Hinchley Medical, a health check is not a checklist handed to a nurse. It is a comprehensive clinical consultation delivered by an experienced, qualified GP — a doctor with the training, time and commitment to see your whole health picture.

Experienced Doctor, Every Time

Your health check is conducted personally by a GP with specialist postgraduate qualifications — a physician who interprets nuance, asks the right questions, and exercises genuine clinical judgement.

Bespoke Written Report

You receive a detailed, personalised health report specific to your results, risk profile and life circumstances — written to be informative, actionable and empowering, not vague and generic.

Tailored Clinical Advice

Every recommendation is specific to you: your age, family history, lifestyle and goals. Whether referral, lifestyle intervention or reassurance — our advice is earned through careful analysis, not algorithm.

Your health check, step by step

From your first contact to your follow-up, every step is designed to be thorough, comfortable and clinically meaningful.

Pre-appointment Health Questionnaire

Before your appointment you complete a detailed health questionnaire covering personal and family history, current medications, lifestyle and any concerns — allowing your physician to prepare a genuinely personalised review.

Comprehensive Laboratory Investigations

A tailored panel covering cardiovascular markers, metabolic function, organ health, hormonal balance, nutritional status and relevant cancer markers — selected and refined to your individual profile.

Detailed Clinical Consultation

Your Hinchley Medical GP consultation is unhurried and in-depth. Blood pressure, BMI, cardiovascular assessment, dermatological review and a thorough clinical interview form a considered and complete clinical picture.

Your Bespoke Health Report

You receive your personalised health report shortly after — your results with clear clinical interpretation, a risk assessment and specific prioritised recommendations written to be meaningful and actionable.

Follow-up & Ongoing Care

Your health does not end at the consultation room door. We offer follow-up to discuss your report, manage concerns, arrange referrals and build a continuing relationship centred on your long-term wellbeing.

"

A health check done well is not a transaction — it is the beginning of a clinical relationship built on knowledge, trust, and a shared commitment to your long-term wellbeing.

Why I believe in annual health checks

I qualified in medicine to make a genuine difference to people's lives. The work that has brought me most satisfaction has rarely been managing established disease — it has been in preventing it from ever taking hold.

The Problem with Waiting

Our NHS is, by necessity, a reactive service. It functions brilliantly when you are unwell — but it is not designed to sit with you for forty-five minutes, review years of blood results, examine your skin, and write a comprehensive personalised report. That is not a criticism; it is the reality of a system under enormous pressure.

Private medicine, practised well, provides something categorically different: time. Time to be thorough. Time to listen. Time to find things that would otherwise remain hidden until they become crises.

A clinical note on blood pressure: Hypertension affects one in three UK adults, the majority undiagnosed or inadequately managed. In fifteen minutes, a blood pressure reading and a brief history can identify a patient at significantly elevated risk of stroke or heart attack — one who felt entirely well that morning.

What "Bespoke" Actually Means

I use the word bespoke deliberately, because it matters clinically. A panel of blood tests without a physician to contextualise them — to know that a slightly elevated ferritin combined with family history and fatigue warrants referral rather than reassurance — is an incomplete service.

At Hinchley Medical, the report is written by the doctor who saw you. It reflects your results, your history, your risk factors, and the clinical reasoning behind every recommendation. When I note that your LDL-C is borderline elevated in the context of a family history of premature cardiac disease and an elevated QRISK3, you will know what it means, what the plan is, and why.

The Longevity Perspective

Annual health checks form the cornerstone of any sensible approach to long-term vitality. Tracking your biomarkers over time — inflammatory markers, metabolic panel, hormonal profile — creates a longitudinal picture infinitely more valuable than any single snapshot. It is the difference between a photograph and a film.

Who Should Have an Annual Health Check?

Everyone over 25 would benefit. The clinical value scales with age, family history, lifestyle, and symptoms long attributed to "just being tired" — symptoms that may be the earliest expressions of a correctable condition. If your energy, weight, mood or sleep have changed without explanation, an annual health check at Hinchley Medical is an investment in the most important asset you have.

Everything you need to know

How long does a health check take?

Your consultation typically takes 45–60 minutes — time for a thorough examination, a full health history review, and a meaningful clinical conversation. Your bespoke report is delivered shortly after.

What blood tests are included?

Your panel is tailored and discussed before testing. A comprehensive check typically includes: full blood count, metabolic and kidney function, liver function, thyroid function, fasting lipids, HbA1c, vitamin D, B12, iron studies, inflammatory markers (CRP/ESR), and selected hormonal or cancer markers as clinically appropriate.

Is this different from an NHS health check?

Substantially different. NHS checks are brief and standardised. At Hinchley Medical, your check is conducted by an experienced GP with a tailored investigation panel, an unhurried consultation, and a bespoke written report. There is no comparison in depth, personalisation or clinical utility.

What if something is found?

Finding something is often the purpose and value of the check. Any concern will be discussed fully, explained clearly, and a management pathway outlined — whether monitoring, lifestyle intervention, medication or specialist referral. You will never leave with an unexplained result.

Do I need symptoms to benefit?

Not at all. The greatest value of a health check is identifying conditions that produce no symptoms. High blood pressure, early diabetes, elevated cholesterol and kidney dysfunction are frequently silent. Feeling well is not the same as being well — and that distinction is precisely what annual health checks exist to reveal.

The best time to act
is before you need to

Your health is the most important thing you have. A comprehensive annual health check at Hinchley Medical gives you clarity, confidence and clinical direction — delivered by experienced physicians genuinely invested in your long-term wellbeing.
