Early Detection Saves Lives

Why Regular Skin & Mole Checks Matter

Routine skin surveillance significantly increases the chance of detecting melanoma, basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma at an early, treatable stage. You may benefit from a professional mole check if you have:

●●●

Many Moles

Individuals with a large number of moles have a statistically higher risk of developing melanoma and benefit from regular professional monitoring.

Family or Personal History

A personal or family history of skin cancer increases your likelihood of future occurrences — making routine screening essential.

Sun-Sensitive or Fair Skin

Fair skin types, a history of sunburn or sunbed use all elevate risk. Proactive skin checks help identify changes before they progress.

Changing Moles

Any mole changing in size, shape, colour or sensation warrants prompt professional assessment with dermatoscopic imaging.

At Hinchley Medical in Esher, Surrey, we focus on early diagnosis and prevention. Our thorough approach delivers clear answers, reassurance and a tailored medical plan — whether you visit us from Cobham, Oxshott, Surbiton, Hampton or elsewhere in South West London.

The Procedure

Advanced Dermatoscopic Imaging Technology

We use state-of-the-art dermatoscopes and high-resolution medical imaging systems to examine the internal structure of moles and skin lesions in extraordinary detail. Dermoscopy is far more accurate than naked-eye examination, enabling clinicians to identify early signs of melanoma and other skin conditions long before they become visible on the surface.

Irregular Pigment Patterns

Detection of abnormal pigmentation that may indicate early malignant transformation.

Subtle Asymmetry

Identification of structural asymmetry within moles invisible to the naked eye.

Vascular Structure Changes

Evaluation of blood vessel patterns that may signal concerning development.

Early Malignancy Indicators

Recognition of features predictive of skin cancer at the earliest possible stage.

Every image captured forms part of your secure digital skin record, enabling accurate comparison over time and supporting long-term surveillance for patients across Surrey and South West London.

Your Results

Comprehensive Full-Body Mole Mapping

Our full-body mole mapping service creates a complete photographic overview of your skin using professional medical-grade imaging equipment. Every significant mole and lesion is documented so that even the smallest change can be detected between visits.

Mole mapping is particularly valuable for patients with many moles, a history of skin cancer, or dysplastic (atypical) moles — and is one of the most effective tools for early melanoma detection available at a private clinic near Hinchley Wood, Esher and the surrounding Surrey area.

Complete digital record of your skin health

Accurate baseline to detect new or changing lesions

Proactive long-term skin surveillance plan

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a skin check and who is it for?

+

A skin check is a detailed medical examination of your skin, moles and lesions to detect early signs of skin cancer or other abnormalities. At Hinchley Medical, all skin checks are doctor-led and use advanced dermatoscopic imaging for highly accurate assessment. Skin checks are suitable for adults and older teenagers of all skin types.

How does a mole check differ from a full skin check?

+

A mole check focuses specifically on assessing individual moles for suspicious changes using dermoscopy, while a full skin check examines your entire skin surface systematically from head to toe. Both are available at our Esher clinic.

What is mole mapping and who should consider it?

+

Mole mapping is a full-body photographic record documenting all significant moles and lesions. It is ideal for individuals with many moles, a family or personal history of melanoma, atypical or dysplastic moles, fair skin with high sun exposure, or anyone seeking long-term monitoring and reassurance. It is one of the most effective tools for early melanoma detection.

What technology does Hinchley Medical use for skin assessments?

+

We use state-of-the-art dermatoscopic imaging and high-resolution digital photography. These tools enable clinicians to examine pigment patterns, vascular structures and early malignant features that cannot be seen with the naked eye.

How long does an appointment take?

+

A standard skin check typically takes 20–30 minutes. Mole mapping appointments usually take 30–45 minutes due to the additional full-body imaging. You will receive your results and a personalised management plan during the same appointment.

What happens if a mole looks suspicious?

+

If a mole requires further investigation, we will discuss your options immediately. This may include short-interval follow-up imaging, mole removal, or referral to dermatology or skin surgery for biopsy. Our priority is ensuring timely, appropriate action.

Are skin checks and mole mapping painful?

+

No. Skin checks, mole checks and mole mapping are completely non-invasive and painless. If a mole needs to be removed for biopsy, this would be arranged separately.

How often should I have a skin check?

+

Most patients benefit from an annual skin check. If you have high-risk features — many moles, atypical moles, previous skin cancer or a family history — a 6- or 12-month mole mapping review may be recommended by your clinician.

Can you remove moles at Hinchley Medical?

+

Yes. If a mole requires removal for medical or diagnostic reasons, we can arrange mole excision with appropriate referral or in-clinic treatment depending on the case. Cosmetic mole removal may also be possible following clinical assessment.

Are my images stored securely?

+

Absolutely. All dermatoscopic images and mole map photographs are stored securely in your encrypted medical record, enabling safe and accurate comparison at future visits.

Do I need a GP referral to book?

+

No referral is required. You can book a private skin check, mole check or mole mapping appointment directly with Hinchley Medical. We welcome patients from Hinchley Wood, Esher, Cobham, Oxshott, Surbiton, Hampton and across Surrey.
